The Importance Of Jewellery As An Accessory

Anyone who knows fashion in the slightest bit knows that accessories are a vital part of any outfit. Many would even argue that it is the accessories which make or. break the outfit. Shoes and handbags fall into this category along with a very important piece: fashion jewellery. The jewellery pieces that you select to go with an outfit can either compliment it, or take away from it drastically. It is important to choose each piece carefully so that you make the best impression.

Earrings are very significant pieces of jewellery. They are close to the face, so they must be chosen carefully or they will distract people from looking at you and your wonderfully selected outfit. In this instance, size matters. Too big, and your face gets lost. Too small, and people won’t even notice that you have any on.

Necklaces for women can be of great value. Certain necklines on clothing such as the v-neck seem to be made for necklaces. They frame your neck and give your outfit a pop of color. Bulky is never the key when wearing a necklace. Something classic and simple such as the pearl necklace is a much better option. It will add some contrast to your outfit without competing with it.

Bracelets can also be great additions to an outfit. Some people avoid these pieces of jewellery because they find them to be useless. After all, how many people look at your wrist? But consider how often you shake hands, wave to someone, or sign a paper. During all of these instances your wrist is on display and having a beautiful piece of jewellery to adorn it would impress others.
Whether it is one piece or several pieces of jewellery, adding jewellery to your wardrobe is something that can easily elevate you to the next level of style and make you feel better about the way you look.

Until next time

MizEllie's Festival Fashion Guide

Ok we know that the fabled spring weather has only just made an appearance and summer feels very far away but we can now officially say that it is festival season! No we haven't gone insane here at MizEllie Coachella has kicked off marking the official start of festival season. The Southern Californian show got into full swing on April 11thand every celeb worth their salt will be making an appearance at the event.

While the UK festival season has yet to truly kick off here in the UK it's still the perfect time to start thinking about that all important festival wardrobe. Gone are the days when at events like Glastonbury you could turn up in your best hippy garb and then not care what you looked like. Instead, festival season has turned into a catwalk giving people the chance to show off their best boho chic looks.
What's more with celebs like Kate Moss, Emma Watson and Katy Perry all famous festival goers it can make us mere mortals feel like we have to compete. However, as anyone who has been to a festival can testify packing the right clothes into a rucksack and when you add in the fact that you are going to be living in a tent and not washing for days it's hard to look perfect but we at MizEllie want you to look great this festival season so here's our guide to getting through the summer in true boho style.

Pack for the weather

When it comes to festivalling layering has to be your best friend because you have no way of escaping the elements (unless off course you are glamping it up in a fancy Yurt!) So if you are in Britain make sure you take your mac and wellies so you can deal with any downpours. Also layer up your pretty summer dresses and shorts with thin jumpers and tops because let's face it as much as we all daydream about tripping round the fields in a floaty summery haze – it is likely to rain and there is nothing worse than being drenched all day.
It's also a good idea to go for layers of lightweight fabric as it will dry more quickly and don't take anything that you don't mind getting muddy or can't clean again. Layers are also great as when it gets hot you can discard them and if they are light won't be too heavy to carry and make sure you bring a hat for sun and rain. While if you are festivalling somewhere like Spain you will need lightweight clothes to give you some protection from the sun.

Accessories are your new best friend

With limited space to pack, one of the simplest ways of making your outfit look suitably boho is with accessories.  Costume and fashion jewellery is small and lightweight but will instantly perk up an outfit, while fashion handbags are a must have because you will need something other than your rucksack to carry around during the day. Just make sure it closes up and a shoulder bag is a good idea as you will want to keep your hands free to carry your pint and dance around.  Here at MizEllie we also always take neck scarves with us when go to a festival as they can be worn round the neck as a boho accessory one the first day and can then be used as a head scarf when your hair is need of a wash and not looking it's best!

Patterns For Spring /Summer

Patterns for Spring/summer

After waiting around for weeks the spring weather is finally upon us so that means its time to start embracing the best spring trends – because lets face it there is never an excuse to not do a bit of shopping!  And if there is one trend that we are getting excited about at MizEllie it is the trend for patterns – whether it is stripes or checkerboards there were a number of gorgeous patterned outfits on the catwalks. What's more it is a perfect look to recreate the look at home.

Stripes

On the spring/summer 2013 catwalks the designers were certainly walking the line and taking a linear approach to their designs with bold stripes, chevrons and even zig-zags.  On the Moschino and Dolce & Gabbana runway it was about horizontal and vertical stripes in bold bright colours or in the colour scheme of the season – monochrome (a look which Strictly star Chelsee Healey has recently been spotted in, while DJ Fearne Cotton has been seen in a green stripped dress). While at Marc Jacobs it was all about playing with the optical illusions and patterns using stripes – in fact he had long, curved stripes and optical patterns creating a great effect. When worn in the right way stripes can help make you look slimmer so they are perfect for the summer.

However, if you don’t want to wear all over stripes then you can take inspiration from the Etro or Marc Jacobs catwalk where the models were seen carrying gorgeous striped clutch bags in sexy blacks and whites (perfect for the evening). Therefore, striped women's handbags are the perfect way to channel the trend and look like you are a true fashionista.

Chequerboard

Another key trend was bold, dramatic chequerboards which were seen on a number of catwalks - including Chanel, Marni and Alexis Mabille but it was Louis Vuitton who dominated this trend with the models coming down escalators in bold graphic outfits in citrus colours and mustard yellows. The designer mixed up squares in different sizes as well as varying up fabrics to achieve a bold dramatic look – the even had shoulder bags in gorgeous checked designs.

Polka dots

Another big pattern trend was the humble polka dot with Giorgio Armani, Chanel and Haider Ackermann all showcasing the trend on the catwalks.  While it has been embraced by a number of celebs including Jessica Alba, Nicky Hilton and Heidi Klum and most recently Michelle Williams who attended the Kate Young For Target party in a sheer polka dot top. It's a great look for spring and one of the perfect ways of achieving it is with great women's handbags which can add a cute addition to your outfit.

At MizEllie we have a number of clutch bags and shoulder bags which will add a great patterned addition to your outfit and will look like they have come straight of the catwalk. It is also a perfect way to inject a bit of high fashion into your look without having to spend a fortune on a new outfit.

What patterns are you going to channel this spring/summer? Do you think you will be embracing the trend?

Top Costume Jewellery Trends for any Wedding Guest

Here at MizEllie we've started to be inundated with summer wedding invites and with the wedding season nearly upon us it's time to start planning that all important outfit. This spring/summer there are loads of great trends you can channel to ensure you look your best this season – from graphic prints, to shiny metallics, to chic pencil skirts and fluorescents to sexy 60s looks there is a look for everyone this year. However, as we all know the wedding season can be an expensive time so if you want to update your current wardrobe so it looks up to date for whatever party you have to attend this spring/summer the simplest way is with fashion jewellery.

A great piece of costume jewellery can really take a wedding guest outfit from OK to wow in an instant. But what key trends should you be looking for?

Statement jewellery

If there is one jewellery trend to channel this year it has to be bold statement jewellery – from the catwalks of Jean Paul Gautier, Dolce & Gabbana, Etro, and Balmain (to name just a few) there were a number of bold, eye-catching designs.

While celebs such as Made in Chelsea's Millie Mackintosh (who wore a statement collar necklace in shades of grey to the recent Rodial Beautiful Awards) and IT model Cara Delevingne and best friend Rita Ora (who are often seen in bold pieces and have recently bought matching best friend necklaces) have also been showcasing the trend.

From striking chandelier earrings to bold necklaces a statement piece of fashion jewellery will take even the dullest outfit from blah to fab and will make sure that you look on-trend at any wedding you go to.

What's more statement costume jewellery really gives you the perfect chance to showcase your personality without going overboard.

£25.00

Spiked costume jewellery

It comes from the statement trend but spiked fashion jewellery is set to be a massive trend this spring/summer. Not for the faint hearted a spiked necklace, ring or bracelet could toughen up an otherwise girly outfit but just make sure you keep the rest of the look sleek to counteract the toughness a bit.

Spikey Bracelet £8.00

1920s

With the Great Gatsby on the way and the ever wonderful Downton Abbey due back on our screens in the autumn (here at MizEllie we're looking forward to both!) there is a real 1920s feel to fashion trends so think art nouvelle and art deco costume jewellery pieces which will add a pretty touch to your wedding outfit.

At MizEllie we know how expensive the wedding season can be so we have a range of fab fashion jewellery that you can use to jazz up any outfit and make that old favourite dress seem like a whole new outfit while still looking like the ultimate fashionista.

Trendspotting: Statement Earrings

Studs are stunning, but how about a bolder choice in earrings this season?
We took a look at this Spring’s top jewellery trends from designers across the board, and we saw that the freewheeling, fearless statement necklace approach is now being seen in earrings.

Behold The Statement Earring

From left to right top row.
Tory Burch Square Stone Diamante Teardrop Earrings £200.00.
Bijoux Heart Swarvoski Crystal and Pearl Clip on Earrings £200.00
Nicole Romano Double Drop Chain Earrings £210.00

From left to right bottom row.
MiuMiu Ara Crystal Bead Drop Earrings £110.00
Authelie Biderman Machu Picchu Clip On Earrings £600.00
Kenneth Jay Lane Crystal Clip On Earrings £110.00 Net a Porter.

Seeing some similarities here? We did, too. And some pretty impressive price tags (yikes!) You’ll notice most of these don’t even use semi-precious gems, either – beyond good quality Swarovski crystals and some gold plating, these are all essentially costume jewellery, not a whole lot different from what you or I can find in average department stores.

One of the things we do best at MizEllie is pick out what we think are exciting combinations of colour, shape and sparkle in our fashion jewellery, and our statement earrings are no exception. We think you’ll like our earring collection, and we’re pretty sure our price tags make a pretty important statement, too!
