About us

MizEllie is a unique online accessories boutique for funky fashionistas everywhere!

Run by women, for women, MizEllie is for fashion-forward, think-for-yourself women and teens who want to wear something different than what’s in every other store. Whether it’s just the right scarf to pull together your look for a night out, a subtly elegant necklace for ‘ladies that lunch’, or the hottest trends in bags, MizEllie has the perfect accent piece to suit your mood.

We cater to the hipster who knows what she likes, but doesn’t believe in inflated price tags. We’re inspired by music, art, indie culture, retro designs and classic looks, which inform our collection of bags, jewellery and scarves. We only pick things we love, and stock new items weekly. We’re very excited about the new items we’ve discovered, and are just as excited about sharing them with the world!

At MizEllie, we are customers just like you: we search for super-distinctive, cool accessories that also have great value. The big designer brands can be found anywhere – MizEllie has the pieces that will make you stand out and get noticed.

So start browsing, and get ready to find a fresh style to call your own.

The MizEllie Team

Kate

I first became interested in fashion was when I was around 10. I would make clothes for my little sister’s Barbies out of the odd socks pile. I would love getting creative, cutting them up, stitching them up, then dressing them up. Her friends would envy her Barbie’s wardrobe!

Then as a teenager I got very experimental with fashion, and would often shock people with outfits that I had made or put together. I would describe my taste now as classical. I love vintage clothes and strongly admire anything vintage - hair, clothes, make up, jewellery, tattoos. The vintage jewellery section on MizEllie was my idea.

When out shopping I always look for value on the high street, and often find little gems at charity shops and boot sales. My favourite high street shops are Urban Outfitters and Topshop; they are always on point with the latest trends while balancing quality and value for money. My favourite brand is classical English - Dickins & Jones. Their dress collections are very flattering to a woman’s figure, giving you a sexy look but keeping it classy and pretty. I also really like Victoria Beckham’s new collection, it’s nice to see that she has been given some recognition at New York Fashion Week. Her brand is very sexy but classic. Just how I like it! I keep abreast of everything that is happening in fashion, and help select just the right accessories for MizEllie to accent your outfits.

Fashion now is incredibly exciting! Retro is in full effect and classic Hollywood glamour is back!

I am currently a hairstylist, and lately I get more and more clients asking for new takes on vintage hair (i.e. victory rolls, heavy bangs, boho dos, creative colour...) I even get young girls coming in for shampoo and sets and a modern twist on purple rinses! People aren’t scared to be different anymore, and I love that diversity of fashion in people. Living in Brighton, I am always walking the street in awe of some people’s take on fashion. With retro boutiques and hair salons on every corner, I feel comfortable that this look is here to stay!

My main interests are fashion, hair, make up, music and photography. I am at my happiest when I’m being creative and enjoying the arts. A typical outfit for me is a nice knee-length dress, tights, flats, fur coat and lots of silver jewellery to match. I set my hair into Marilyn’s shape and red lipstick is always in my bag!

At MizEllie, I look after the social networking part of the business, as well as helping pick accessories. My Mum thinks Twitter is a noise a bird makes! She has always been a direct face-to-face person in business, so the virtual world is where I come in - I make sure the blog, Facebook and Twitter are kept up to date with the latest fashion news and products on MizEllie.

Ellie

Hi its Ellie, I’m 17, and the business name of course came from my name. I’m Karen’s youngest daughter, and the one that keeps her organised - as someone has to. I like to wear baggy jackets with skinny jeans and wedge shoes! I’m more of a rock chick kinda gal. I wear loads and loads of our bracelets, sometimes five on each arm of my favourite ones. I’ve loved jewellery ever since I can remember.

I sing and play guitar, and I’m well into my music. I love groups like Enter Shikari, Amy Winehouse, Lower than Atlantis, Blink 182, Ed Sheeran, even the old stuff like James Brown.

I look after the packaging and delivery side, and between myself and some of my college friends, we choose all the products for the teenage part of the website. My mum does the Ladies That Lunch part, and Kate does the rest. I think it’s important to have a young person’s voice in a business like this, and that was the reason for starting the company in the first place, so we could help other moms make the right decision for their teenage kids. And we’ve been really keen with the pricing, we don’t charge as much as other shops!

I've always been interested in wearing nice clothes, but only ever shopped at the high street brands, with Next, Monsoon and per una from Marks & Spencer being my favourite stores. When I go shopping, I look for value: Is the product worth the money I am paying for it? Having three children and bringing them up myself, I had few options over the years. I've never bought 'designer clothes', as I feel all you are really paying for is the name. This is one reason I became interested in our store concept – why not find fashionable accessories that aren’t out of reach of people like us, but are just as fabulous as the big name brands?

My interests are photography, gardening, and my home. As a professional interior designer, I love decorating and changing the look of things all the time. As far as my own look, I tend to wear maxi dresses as I find them very comfortable with short jackets. I am not a jeans and t-shirt person. This is why I was inspired to create the Ladies That Lunch section on the website; this is where you’ll find accessories to take your dresses and casual outfits from day to night, or just take your look up to the next level.

The three of us at MizEllie bring different skills to the company, which makes for an ideal business relationship. We all play to our strengths: Ellie is the organised one, who has a file and a drawer for everything. I am the creative one, who comes up with the business ideas and the development of the website, as well as all the photography. Kate is the fashionista - as former model, she lives and breathes the fashion industry, so I try to steal ideas from her! Kate has the final say on the product lines we should carry, with the exception of the teenage girl’s line - which Ellie and her friends have control over!

Ultimately, what makes MizEllie special is it’s a shop for women, run by women - all the stock on the website has been chosen by us, so you can think of us as your personal shoppers. (I can never understand why a man should decide what women ought to wear!)
